What you can check

Each platform reports different things, so the checker covers what each one actually gives you. Where a platform does not report a metric, it tells you instead of guessing.

PlatformWhat you can check
Instagram Reelsskip rate, average percentage viewed, save rate, share rate
TikTokaverage percentage viewed, completion rate, engagement rate, share rate
YouTube Shortsaverage percentage viewed, completion rate, viewed rate

Why length changes the answer

Retention is a ratio, and a ratio means nothing until you know what it was measured against. Half of a twelve second video is six seconds. Half of a ninety second video is forty-five. Those are two very different outcomes wearing the same percentage, which is why the checker asks how long your video is before it answers.

The same goes for the comparison you make afterwards. Your own recent videos at the same length on the same platform will always tell you more than any published figure, including ours.

FAQ

Common questions

Keeping it inside 20 to 30% is a solid result for most content, and anything under that means your opening is holding almost everyone who sees it. Once you pass above 40%, most people are leaving before your hook has landed. Skip rate counts viewers who left within the first three seconds, so it is the closest thing any platform gives you to a direct read on your opening.

Swiping away is measured as skip rate, and once yours reaches above 40% the opening is the thing to fix rather than the rest of the video. Your first frame and your first spoken line are carrying almost all the weight at that point. Compare against your own recent videos as well, because your audience sets your real baseline.

Yes, and that is why the checker asks for it. On a YouTube Short between 15 and 30 seconds you are aiming for above 50%, and the same percentage on a much longer video describes a completely different outcome. Half of a twelve second video is six seconds; half of a ninety second video is forty-five.

They are targets worth aiming at rather than measured platform averages, and the checker says so beside every result. The most useful comparison is not this page at all, it is your own recent videos at the same length on the same platform. These give you somewhere to start; your own catalogue tells you what is normal for your audience.

Yes. There is no account, no sign in, and nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere. Enter a number, read the result, close the tab if you like.
